=== 18109/P1701/005889 - Transmission Control Unit: Locked ===

==== Possible Symptoms ====

* Transmission will not shift properly.

==== Possible Causes ====

* Component Protection active due to module replacement.

==== Possible Solutions ====

* If Component Protection is active due to module replacement, this will need to be resolved at the Audi dealer using Software Version Management. SVM is a system used by VW/Audi to update control modules and in certain cases, to change their Coding or Adapt serial numbers for anti theft systems.

==== Special Notes ====

* Component Protection is normally found in the Audi (4F) A6 and (4E) A8 and newer Audi platform, as well as the MQB platform VW, SEAT, and Skoda cars.
* Aftermarket keys may cause issues with factory scan being able to match replacement mechatronic units to the vehicle.
=== Injector Quantity Adjustment (IMA) and Injector Voltage Adjustment (ISA) ===

''These values represent the behavior of an injection valve (Piezo Injector). Caused by manufacturing tolerances the injectors have a unique behavior and get divided into separate classes. In combination with the automatically determined learning values of the engine control module the pre- and post-injections are being calculated individually for each valve.''
''The behavior of an injection valve is also mileage dependent, so a valve with e.g. 10000 km has a different behavior then one with 70000 km. The control module determines these automatically while driving so the learning values change against the mileage.''
''When altering one of the following values the learning values are being reset because the ECU thinks you are adjusting a new valve.''

'''The IMA-ISA values need to be adapted when:'''
* One or more injection valves have been replaced. Make sure not to adjust the valves which have not been changed!
* The engine control module has been replaced.
* ''Do NOT adapt these values when you did not replace one of the above parts, also not for training or demonstration purposes.''

The adjustment code can be found on the injector itself, it is a 7-digit value and does only use the following chars: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,K,L,M,N,O,P,R,S,T,U,V,W,X,Y,Z. ''A value of ''AAAAAAA'' is also not valid.''

CR (Common Rail) TDI engines should '''NOT''' be operated without fuel so that operation is absolutely necessary after ANY fuel system repairs! Perform the [[Fuel Pump Basic Settings for PD, PPD, and CR TDI Engines | Fuel Pump Basic Settings]] BEFORE the engine is cranked or started!
* Switch Ignition OFF, wait 10 seconds and switch Ignition ON again. The values should be saved now, please verify them by double checking the adaptation values.

* The Test value shows "AAAAAAA" if you have entered an implausible value. If the IMA-ISA value on the new injector is difficult to read, consider scanning the QR code with a smart phone app.
**We have had success with BB, Android and iOS platform mobile devices running i-nigma's free app.
=== Exhaust Gas Differential Pressure Sensor (G450) Adaptation ===

The Exhaust Gas Differential Pressure Sensor (G450) Adaptation is performed based on the EDC Protocol which is shown in the upper left corner of the [http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/open_screen.html Open Controller] screen
==== CAN Protocol (G450) procedure ====

Instructions should be populated in a pop-up balloon when connected to the controller in question with VCDS.

Key ON, Engine OFF
'''[Coding-2'''] ''or [Login-II]'' button
Enter the code shown in the VCDS pop-up balloon
'''[Do It!]'''
Switch Ignition OFF for 30 seconds
After the key is cycled back on the adaptation should be completed. If it is not completed, proceed with the next steps:

These steps must be repeated 5 times.
* Ignition ON
* Wait 5 seconds
* Ignition OFF
* Wait 40 seconds
* Repeat 4 more times

Note: If a code is NOT shown in the VCDS pop-up balloon registered customers can [http://forums.ross-tech.com Join our Forum] -or- send the complete Auto-Scan via [mailto:Support@Ross-Tech.com email] with the recent repair history including the part number of the original/removed sensor and the new replacement sensor.

* If the Injector Calibration value is submitted correctly, but the ECM rejects it (Request out Range), please verify the correct injector part number has been installed.

__FORCETOC__

A large majority of modern VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda vehicles require the configuration of replacement batteries. The diagnostic steps vary depending on the actual vehicle configuration.

'''Prerequisites:'''
* New VW/Audi Battery Installed
** Aftermarket batteries may NOT have a valid Part Number, Vendor code or Serial number. Ross-Tech cannot offer assistance if the necessary information is missing.
* Key On, Engine OFF
== Obsolete Battery Part Numbers ==
A battery part number may become obsolete and replaced with a new part number that the control module does not support. If you run into this, we suggest to try an obsolete part number that matches the Ah rating of the replacement battery.
* Users encountering difficulty with the data shown on the battery sticker may want to:
** Consider scanning the QR code with a smart phone app.
** Refer to this [http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/581232-B8-A4-Battery-Replacement-Coding B8 A4 Battery Replacement - Coding] thread which discusses labels in some detail.
** We have seen some cases where (contrary to established norms) some Varta batteries have VAO (letter O) instead of VA0 (number 0). If you encounter a problem with Coding one of these, please try substituting the letter for the number or vice versa.
** Based on feedback MLB based CAN Gateway modules often reject ZET, EMC and JCB vendor codes. In those cases we recommend using Varta so the control module will accept the new value.

A large majority of modern VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda vehicles require the configuration of replacement batteries. The diagnostic steps vary depending on the actual vehicle configuration.

'''Prerequisites:'''
* New VW/Audi Battery Installed
** Aftermarket batteries may NOT have a valid Part Number, Vendor code or Serial number. Ross-Tech cannot offer assistance if the necessary information is missing.
* Key On, Engine OFF
*** Factory installed AGM often use Fleece
*** Factory installed Enhanced Flooded Batteries use EFB
*** Factory installed Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) use Wet
Providing the values were accepted by the controller the new battery coding is complete.
'''Note''': The 10 digit serial number may be preceded by the Battery Vendor Code, for instance VA0. See examples below:
== Notes ==
* Perform Steering Angle Sensor (G85) Adaptation
** See Vehicle specific [[Diagnostic Procedures]] for Details
* Check/Replace Steering Angle Sensor (G85)
* Check/Replace Steering Column Control Module (J527)

==== Special Notes ====

* When found in Audi A4/S4/RS4/Cabriolet (8E/8H): Brake Electronics, these are the most likely causes if the Basic Setting fails or the Fault comes back shortly after clearing. See TPI 0984403 for further details.
** MY 2001: Steering Column Control Module (J527) was the most common fault
** MY 2002: Steering Angle Sensor (G85) was the most common fault
** MY 2003/2004: Experience has shown the Steering Angle Sensor (G85) were the only cause, Steering Column Control Module (J527) were not defective yet.
** MY 2006/2007: Steering Column Control Module (J527) was the most common fault
* In many cases this code can be cleared out by a simple test drive
** Do several lock to lock turns in a safe area
** Short road test, 0.5km
** Again, do several lock to lock turns in a safe area
** Follow up with another short road test, 0.5km
