Possible Symptoms

• Power Loss
• Check Engine Light

Possible Causes

• Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 (N208) faulty
• Mechanical Timing not correct, including Chain and/or Belt timing.
• Possible oil sludge and/or oil pressure/flow concerns

Possible Solutions

• Check Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 (N208)
• Check Mechanical Timing
• Check Oil level, condition for possible contamination

Special Notes

• The P0021 fault code sets when:
  • The deviation between the target and actual positions exceeds 3.0° CRK for 1.5 to 2.0 seconds, the adjustment angle is ≤ 3.0° CRK, and the check is performed three times.
  • Time after engine start: > 3.5 – 10.0 s
  • Modeled oil temperature: -10 – 114°C
  • Engine speed: 480 – 10,240 RPM
  • Camshaft position adjustment: active
  • Catalyst heating: not active
  • Change of target position: > 10.0° CRK
