Lamborghini Gallardo (40) Transmission Electronics

Table Of Contents

Information
This page applies exclusively to the Lamborghini Gallardo (L140) equipped with the E-Gear transmission. The E-Gear system is an electro/hydraulically actuated single clutch, automated manual gearbox. It uses high pressure hydraulic actuators, an electric hydraulic pump, and a dedicated Transmission Control Unit (TCU) to manage clutch engagement, gear selection, and shift timing. Multiple driving modes are available, including automatic and manual paddle shifting, each of which are calibrated for performance while minimizing clutch wear.

General Information
Caution: When the engine is idling and a drive gear is engaged, the vehicle can creep or move. Always press the brake pedal when selecting a gear or when the vehicle is stationary with a gear engaged. The E-Gear system uses an automatic parking lock function when the engine is switched off, and the lock disengages once a valid gear selection is made after restart.

Disclaimer and Waiver
These procedures apply only to stock, unmodified Gallardo L140 E-Gear systems. By proceeding, you acknowledge and accept full responsibility for any resulting consequences or damage. Vehicles with aftermarket clutches, flywheels, TCU tuning, or hydraulic modifications may not respond predictably, and following these steps on a modified vehicle may result in improper operation or component damage. Modifications may also void warranty coverage. Proceed entirely at your own risk.

The Transmission type can be identified by evaluating the data in the Auto-Scan:

Address 02: Auto Trans Labels: 400-927-156-V1.clb
     Part No SW: 400 927 156 (?) HW: CFC 311 L.0 1
     Component: L140 E-GEAR MY (??) 0030

Coding

It is recommended to use the coding from the original module when replacing the TCM. VCDS will display coding information within the pop-up balloon when in the Coding screen for this transmission.

Basic Setting

Basic Settings
Use the Basic Settings options available in the VCDS pull-down list for the E-Gear system. Follow the steps shown on screen and refer to the official Lamborghini repair manual for vehicle specific procedures, prerequisites, and safety information. Only perform the functions that are required for your diagnosis or service task.

Important: The "Reset Clutch Wear" function must never be used unless the clutch assembly has actually been replaced. Performing this reset on a used or partially worn clutch will result in incorrect clutch kiss point adaptation, improper engagement behavior, potential performance concerns and accelerated clutch wear. This cannot be overstated: do NOT use this reset for any purpose other than after installing a brand new clutch.

Special Notes

  • For assistance estimating clutch wear based on the measured values, you may use the Ross-Tech E-Gear Clutch Wear Calculator:
