00194 - Ignition Key Removal Lock: Implausible Signal
Possible Causes
- Communication Failure with Gear Selector Module
- Selector Lever (E313) faulty
- Tiptronic Buttons (F189) in Selector Lever (E313) faulty
Possible Solutions
- Check Communication with Gear Selector Module
- Check Selector Lever (E313)
- Check Measuring Value Block (MVB) in Transmission Control Module
- Check Tiptronic Buttons (F189) in Selector Lever (E313)
- Check Measuring Value Block (MVB) in Transmission Control Module

- May be stored in Combination with 28775/U0103/049411.
00194 - Ignition Key Removal Lock: Open or Short to Ground
Possible Symptoms
- Ignition Key cannot be removed from ignition switch with Transmission in Park.
- PRND21 indicator is not reading correctly in the instrument cluster.
- Ignition Key CAN be removed from ignition switch with Transmission in ANY selector position.
Possible Causes
- The N376-Ignition Key Withdrawal Lock Solenoid could have failed.
- The N376 is loose in the housing.
- There is electrical fault with the wiring/connectors for the N376.
Possible Solutions
- Verify the N376-Ignition Key Withdrawal Lock Solenoid is installed correctly.
- Verify the N376 is not an Open Circuit'
- Replaced failed N376 with newest/updated part from the manufacture
Special Notes
- Most of the above is applicable when found in 2005 and newer Jetta A5, 2006 and newer Volkswagen GTI, Golf, Rabbit and EOS
- Please see Volkswagen's Tech Tip (28-08-02). It states "DO NOT replace the ignition switch, lock cylinder, or lock housing assembly" before verifying the proper operation of the N376 (sometimes referred to as the 'catch')
- Use Measuring Value Block Group [005] in the [16-Steering wheel] controller to verify proper operation of the N376.
- Field (3) in the MVB-[005] must display [On] when any driving position is selected.
- Field (4) in MVB-[005] must display [Ok]
- Part number for the "catch" has been updated several times, check with your local parts department for the latest and correct part for the vehicle in question.
