01208 - Data Records in Control Unit Altered

Possible Symptoms

• MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) ON
• Transmission may not engage
• Vehicle may enter limp mode
• Basic Settings may fail

Possible Causes

• Engine and Transmission software versions are incompatible
• Incorrect or non-matching DSG Mechatronics unit installed
• Control Module internal data records altered or corrupted

Possible Solutions

• Verify correct DSG Mechatronics part number for the specific vehicle
  • Check the VAG number displayed in the Open Controller screen in VCDS
  • Confirm part number and software version with the Manufacture's parts department
• Replace with the correct, compatible Mechatronics unit if mismatched
• Perform Coding and Basic Settings
• Verify Engine and Transmission software levels are up to date (with ODIS if needed)

Special Notes

• This fault indicates that the Engine Control Module (ECM) and the Transmission Control Module (TCM/DSG Mechatronics) contain mismatched or incompatible software versions. The TCM stores configuration data that must correspond to the engine's controller software variant. When these do not align, such as after replacing the Mechatronics unit with one from another vehicle or installing an incorrect software version/part number, the vehicle detects the mismatch and sets the fault.
