Retrofitting a Cruise Control System (CCS) into a Audi A4 (8K), Audi A5 (8T) and Audi Q5 (8R) requires multiple steps.

These instructions do not cover mechanical/electronic details, they will only list the diagnostic side (coding etc.). Additional details for the mechanical/electronic work needed are part of the retrofitting instructions provided by the parts supplier (i.e. trailer hitch retrofits) or can be found in the factory repair manuals and wiring diagrams.

Requirements

  • The proper Steering Column Lever/Stalk needs to be installed
  • The proper Steering Column Module (J527 / #16) needs to be installed

Please refer to the Parts Catalog for a List of compatible Parts or contact your Retrofitting Kit Supplier for details. PartsLink24 is linked on our Official Factory Repair Information page.

Configuration

The following Activations are necessary to ensure that the newly fitted parts are properly recognized and are ready to use.

  • Update the Steering Column Control Module (J527 / #16) Coding.
    • Due to different Control Modules and Equipment in the Car the actual Coding Table is not shown here but will automatically be used by the Long Coding Assistant once you access the Function using VCDS.
  • Update the Engine Control Module (J623 / #01) Coding
    • Make sure that the Engine is NOT running, otherwise the new Coding will be rejected. Models equipped with Start/Stop System do have a Shutoff Switch/Button which will deactivate the Start/Stop Function.
    • For Engines with a 2nd Engine Control Module (J624 / #11) this needs to be coded as well.
    • Due to different Control Modules and Equipment in the Car the actual Coding Table is not shown here but will automatically be used by the Long Coding Assistant once you access the Function using VCDS.

If you are having trouble finding/calculating the proper Coding using the Long Coding Assist please Contact us directly. Make sure to include a complete Diagnostic Protocol (Auto-Scan) from the Car and state which steps/work you have performed yet.

Steering Wheel Control Module Versions

The following information was provided by m87a in our Ross-Tech forum. Contributions and corrections can be submitted by creating a new thread within the Retrofits section of our Forum.

If in doubt check the Parts Catalog and order based on the VIN or based on the Original Part Number. In any case the Catalog should interpret the Part and provide you with a Part Number that superseded the Original Part Number. The final Part Number you will get is normally a newer/Highline Module which you can verify based on the Table below.
