Coding may zero after mechanical repairs to the rear brakes!  We believe this the end result of a significant Air Gap discrepancy between specified and the actual adjustment of the parking brake shoes. Saving a complete Auto-Scan BEFORE any rear brake repairs is critical.<br>

Unlike conventional EPB systems found in most VW/Audi models, the large majority of the steps required during and after rear brake repairs on a 7P Touareg are mechanical rather than scan tool related.<br>

We do not have a detailed procedure to offer after mechanical repairs to this Electro-Mechanical Parking Brake (EPB) system at this time but this video shows a test procedure that has been confirmed working by at least one customer:

We strongly advise the following BEFORE any repairs:
+
http://forums.ross-tech.com/showthread.php?3267-7P-T-Reg-EPB
* Run and Save a complete Auto-Scan before any mechanical repairs are made.
+

* Add the following Advanced Measuring Value data to a log with the EPB released:
+
Delete Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
** IDE04435-MAS01849    Air gap-Left

** IDE04435-MAS01850    Air gap-Right

** IDE05272-MAS01849    Air gap before calibration-Left

** IDE05272-MAS01850    Air gap before calibration-Right<br>

Rear Brake Pad and Rotor replacement
Replacement
Due to the conventional nature of the hydraulic rear calipers and brake pads, diagnostic steps are not technically necessary to replace the pads or rotors but we strongly advise saving  the Replacement parts data mentioned above.

* After rear brake pad or rotor replacement the Air Gap needs to be checked, and adjusted if necessary, using the specifications found in the factory level repair manual. The before and after  Advanced Measuring Value data can be used while following the repair manual steps.<br>

* If the 53-Parking Brake control module lost (zeroed) coding the original condition Auto-Scan can be used to re-code the module back to the factory condition.

Parking Brake Shoe replacement
+
After Replacing this Control Module these Steps have to be performed in the following Order:
The Air Gap will require significant adjustments after new parts are installed so all of the Replacement parts steps above are recommended prior to repairs.

* The specifications and adjustment procedures found in the factory level repair manual need to be used.  The General Air Gap specifications are 1.9 to 2.4mm with a max tolerance between left and right sides of 0 to 0.2mm.

* After the parking brake shoes are adjusted using the threaded nut(s) make sure to cycle the EPB on/off using the switch in the vehicle so the Advanced Measuring Value data refreshes.

* If the 53-Parking Brake control module lost (zeroed) coding the original condition Auto-Scan can be used to re-code the module back to the factory condition.

* The Grind-In Output Test procedure (below) should be completed after Parking Brake Shoe replacement.

Coding

Coding for this Control Module is normally done via Software Version Management (SVM). If the old Control Module is still accessible read/copy it's Coding to the new Module. If this is not possible each coding inquiry has to be configured per vehicle based on the complete Auto-Scan and vehicle repair history. Registered Customers can email directly with each request.

Basic Setting

We do not have a detailed procedure to offer after mechanical repairs to this Electro-Mechanical Parking Brake (EPB) system at this time but this video shows a test procedure that has been confirmed working by at least one customer:

http://forums.ross-tech.com/showthread.php?3267-7P-T-Reg-EPB

Delete Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

Replacement

After Replacing this Control Module these Steps have to be performed in the following Order:

In case you are having trouble with procedure please contact us directly and we will assist you with the Coding Process. Every inquiry on this topic has to include a full Auto-Scan as well as which parts have been replaced and why, also make sure the Auto-Scan includes the complete VIN of the vehicle in question.

Special Notes

  • Air Gap Spec is between 1.9mm to 2.4mm
  • Left and Right sides must be within 0.2mm of each other
  • Brake shoe adjuster, each click is a 0.15mm adjustment
    • Left side of vehicle:
      • Moving adjuster wheel towards front of vehicle, Air Gap gets smaller
      • Moving adjuster wheel towards rear of vehicle, Air Gap gets larger
    • Right side of vehicle:
      • Moving adjuster wheel towards front of vehicle, Air Gap gets larger
      • Moving adjuster wheel towards rear of vehicle, Air Gap gets smaller
