Basic Setting

Sensor for Steering Angle (G85)

Prerequisites:

  • Start the vehicle.

[44-Steering Assist]
[Security Access - 16]

  • Enter 19249

[Basic Settings - 04]

  • [MAS00815] Steering angle sensor

[Go!]

  • Rotate steering wheel all the way to the left, hold firmly against end stop for 5 seconds.
  • Rotate steering wheel all the way to the right, hold firmly against end stop for 5 seconds.
  • Center steering wheel, front wheel straight ahead.

[Stop]

  • Several error messages and warnings will appear on the cluster, what messages you get can vary based on how the vehicles is equipped.

[Done, Go Back]

  • Rotate steering wheel all the way to the left, hold firmly against end stop for 5 seconds.
  • Rotate steering wheel all the way to the right, hold firmly against end stop for 5 seconds.
  • Center steering wheel, front wheel straight ahead.

[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

  • Cycle the ignition off for 10 seconds.


Notes

  • When doing the Basic Settings, should see the message of "Running", but it may not change to "Finished Correctly"
  • Several control modules will flag DTCs, "Databus" type codes that can cleared out after the 10 second ignition cycle.

[Select]

[Security Access - 16]
Enter the code shown in the pop-up balloon to enable the basic setting.
[Do it!]
[Basic Settings - 04]
Select Resetting seat occupied recognition.
When applicable type the single digit 0 into the (reserved) box. If this is not present skip this step.
[Go!] to activate the Basic Setting.
After the result of Finished Correctly appears click [Stop]
The reset has been performed.
[Done, Go Back]
[Fault Codes - 02] Faults should NOT be stored
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

Notes

  • If you get a "Request Sequence Error" when performing the Resetting seat occupied recognition then check the following Advance Measuring Values:
    • IDE03871-ENG99733,Seat occupied recognition real part-Measured Value Capacitance
    • IDE03872-ENG99733,Seat occupied recognition imaginary part-Measured Value Capacitance
    • IDE03873-ENG99733,Seat occupied recognition compensated imaginary part-Measured Value Capacitance
      • Not all systems have location IDE03873-ENG99733

It can be normal for one of those locations to be a value of 0 pF, but if two of those locations are 0 pF, it may be a sign of a failed pressure mat that needs to be replaced.

  • We had a repair facility report a Battery Disconnect was required when matching a brand new PODS module to the original Airbag controller when working on a 2011 Jetta Sedan.
