Resetting Service Reminders (SRI) is one function that is affected by the changes that VW/Audi have made relating to SFD/SFD2 and UNECE R155/R156. These measures can prevent changes or even block access to the vehicle. VCDS should be able to read all control modules and read all Adaptation channels even in the latest vehicles, but making changes (such as resetting service reminders) can become complicated.

Let's start with the older vehicles, typically pre-2020, which lack SFD.

Case 1 - No SFD: Just reset the service reminder using VCDS: https://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/sri-reset.php

Case 2 - SFD: When SFD was firsts introduced for example in the MEB (VW ID.4, etc.) or MQBevo (Golf 8, etc.) some modules have SFD such as 5F in the MEB and 17 in the MQBevo. This means to save Adaptation values to reset the service reminder, you would first need to unlock SFD in the module you are trying to change. This can be done with an offline token, like one from one of our German distributors: https://shop.pci-diagnosetechnik.de/SFD-Unlock-Base-Rate-incl-1-Control-Unit After that is unlocked (it stays unlocked for 90 minutes) then SRI Reset can proceed as normal. This process will need to be done again with a new SFD token at the next service reminder.

Case 3 - SFD with Diagnostic Filter on the Gateway. This development came along with for example the 2024+ ID.4 which not only has SFD on some modules, but also has an SFD equipped CAN Gateway that contains an Adaptation channel for a diagnostic filter. By default, this filter prevents viewing other modules in the cars, let alone making changes in them. VCDS contains a workaround (R-Mode) that allows reading all of the modules and their info without first unlocking SFD but any changes will be blocked. In order to make changes in any modules in one of these vehicles, the first step would be to unlock SFD in 19-CAN Gateway (for example using an offline token like one purchased through the link above in Case 2). After 19 is unlocked, an Adaptation channel like this in 19-CAN Gateway can be changed: DE16611-Diagnosis filter: temporary deactivation adapted from active to not active. That turns off the filter which remains off for 20km. Next, the other modules in the car should be accessible without using R-Mode but any SFD modules will still prevent changes from being made. For example to reset the service reminder in the 2024 ID.4 the next step would be to go into address 5F and unlock SFD (using another token) then proceed to save the Adaptation channel(s) to reset SRI. Note that since R-Mode allow you to read data even in modules that the Gateway is filtering, it should be possible to read the SFD challenge from both 19-CAN Gateway and 5F while everything is still locked, to then order BOTH offline SFD tokens at the same time.
