02861 - Electronic Steering Column Lock: Implausible Signal

Possible Symptoms

  • Electronic Steering Column Lock not working
  • Engine not starting

Possible Causes

  • Wiring and/or Connector(s) from/to Electronic Ignition Lock (D9) faulty
  • Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module (J764) faulty

Possible Solutions

  • Check Wiring and/or Connector(s) from/to Electronic Ignition Lock (D9)
  • Check/Replace Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module (J764)

Special Notes

  • When found in the VW Passat (3C), it might be possible to replace the Electronic Steering Column Lock (J764) separately from the entire steering column.
