This page applies to (4G/4H) chassis vehicles such as the 2012+ A6, A7 and 2011+ A8 with Address-15 Component: Airbag10.4

The installed Airbag type can be identified by evaluating the data in the Auto-Scan:

Address 15: Airbags (J234) Labels: 4H0-959-655.clb
  Part No SW: 4G0 959 655 A HW: 4G0 959 655 A
  Component: Airbag10.43 H31 0032
  ASAM Dataset: EV_AirbaAU10BPAAU64X 001014

Information

Replacement of Airbag10.43 control modules will result in Component Protection (CP) DTCs which cannot be resolved using VCDS. See the Replacement section below.

Coding

Coding is performed using Software Version Management (SVM) with an online connection to Audi headquarters.

Adaptation

Adaptation is typically performed using Software Version Management (SVM) with an online connection to Audi headquarters when a brand new control module is installed.

Security Access

  • Will appear in a pop-up balloon when connected to this controller with VCDS.

Special Procedures

Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706)

If the Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706) or the seat itself have been replaced, the reset has to be performed.

Prerequisites:

  • The vehicle is between 5° and 35°C (40° ~ 95°F).
  • Battery voltage no less than 12.4 V.
  • Passenger seat is empty and in normal position.
  • Seatbelt must NOT be plugged in.
  • No faults in the system.

[Select]
[15 - Airbags]
[Security Access - 16]
Enter the code shown in the pop-up balloon.
[Do it!]
[Basic Settings-04]
Select the following from the pull-down menu:
Seat occupied recognition serial number
[Start]
[Stop]

The Seat occupied recognition serial number reset has been performed. Proceed directly to the Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706): Reset

Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706): Reset

If a repair on the Seat Occupied Recognition has been performed, including the above procedure, a reset has to be performed too.

Resetting seat occupied recognition
[Start]
[Stop]

The seat occupied recognition reset reset has been performed. Fault codes should clear after an ignition cycle.

Replacement

Replacement of the Airbag control module may result in Component Protection (CP) DTCs such as U1101 and U1100. Component Protection can only be learned/disabled using the Factory Tool in Combination with an online Connection with GeKo access.

The Coding and Parameterization steps are performed online as well, but those steps use a process called SVM (Software Version Management). SVM is a system used by VW/Audi to flash update control modules, and in certain cases, to change their Coding, Adaptation and configure Parameters.

Even if you have a complete Auto-Scan saved prior to replacing the Airbag module and the replacement part number is EXACTLY the same we strongly recommend using SVM to code and unlock CP for liability reasons.

Special Notes

Due to liability concerns, Ross Tech does not offer assistance for installing used airbag components.

  • If you click the basic settings tests out of sequence, you may need to exit the module, cycle the key and repeat the entire process.
  • If the procedure results in an error message -or- does not complete as expected:
  1. Registered users can send a complete Auto-Scan via email.
  2. Include specific details regarding which component(s) were replaced in the vehicle.
  3. Include specific details regarding the exact results when completing the basic settings procedure
