Coding

AirbagVW10 modules are Index based Long Coded. When using one of our professional grade HEX interfaces, the Airbag Coding Assistant should be used as explained on the following page of our interactive manual. and our Airbag Coding tech tip.

Adaptation

Used to deactivate individual airbag components (see repair manual for details).

Basic Setting

Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706)

If the Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706) or the seat itself have been replaced, the basic setting has to be performed.

Prerequisites:

  • The vehicle is between 5° and 35°C (40° ~ 95°F).
  • Battery voltage no less than 12.4 V.
  • Passenger seat is empty and in normal position.
  • Seatbelt must NOT be plugged in.
  • No faults in the system.

[Select]
[15 - Airbags]
[Security Access - 16]
Enter the code shown in the pop-up balloon to enable the basic setting.
[Do it!]
[Basic Settings - 04]
Select Seat occupied recognition serial number.
When applicable type the single digit 0 into the (reserved) box. If this is not present skip this step.
[Go!] to activate the Basic Setting.
After the result of Finished Correctly appears click [Stop]

The Seat occupied recognition serial number reset has been performed. Proceed directly to the Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706): Reset procedure!

Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706): Reset

If a repair on the Seat Occupied Recognition has been performed, including the above basic settings procedure, a reset has to be performed too.

Select Resetting seat occupied recognition.
When applicable type the single digit 0 into the (reserved) box. If this is not present skip this step.
[Go!] to activate the Basic Setting.
After the result of Finished Correctly appears click [Stop]
The reset has been performed.
[Done, Go Back]
[Fault Codes - 02] Faults should NOT be stored
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

Notes

  • If you get a "Request Sequence Error" when performing the Resetting seat occupied recognition then check the following Advance Measuring Values:
    • IDE03871-ENG99733,Seat occupied recognition real part-Measured Value Capacitance
    • IDE03872-ENG99733,Seat occupied recognition imaginary part-Measured Value Capacitance
    • IDE03873-ENG99733,Seat occupied recognition compensated imaginary part-Measured Value Capacitance
      • Not all systems have location IDE03873-ENG99733

It can be normal for one of those locations to be a value of 0 pF, but if two of those locations are 0 pF, it may be a sign of a failed pressure mat that needs to be replaced.

  • We had a repair facility report a Battery Disconnect was required when matching a brand new PODS module to the original Airbag controller when working on a 2011 Jetta Sedan.

Special Notes

Due to liability concerns, Ross Tech does not offer assistance for installing used airbag components.

  • If you click the basic settings tests out of sequence, you may need to exit the module, cycle the key and repeat the entire process.
  • If the procedure results in an error message -or- does not complete as expected:
  1. Registered users can send a complete Auto-Scan via email.
  2. Include specific details regarding which component(s) were replaced in the vehicle.
  3. Include specific details regarding the exact results when completing the basic settings procedure.E?ID=110711 and ST?ID=34591
