This is a preliminary Wiki page!
If you were sent this link directly we are already working with you directly and anticipate feedback.
If you found this page when searching the internet and decided to try procedures located on it before contacting us proceed at your own risk.
This page applies to MQB vehicles such as the Audi A3 (8V), Seat Leon (5F), Skoda Octavia (5E) and VW Golf (5G) with Address-15 Component: AirbagVW20.
This can be identified by evaluating the data in the Auto-Scan:
Address 15: Airbags (J234) Labels: 5Q0-959-655.clb Part No SW: 5Q0 959 655 T HW: 5Q0 959 655 T Component: AirbagVW20 ASAM Dataset: EV_AirbaVW20SMEVW37X
Coding
AirbagVW20 modules are Long Coded and configured online using the Factory Tool and Software Version Management (SVM). Coding documentation is NOT available in VCDS.
Adaptation
Used to deactivate individual airbag components (see repair manual for details).
Basic Setting
Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706)
If the Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706) or the seat itself have been replaced, the basic setting has to be performed.
Prerequisites:
- The vehicle is between 5° and 35°C (40° ~ 95°F).
- Battery voltage no less than 12.4 V.
- Passenger seat is empty and in normal position.
- Seatbelt must NOT be plugged in.
- No Component Protection, Control Module Faulty, Crash Data Stored, Control Module Not Coded or Igniter faults in the system.
[Select]
[15 - Airbags]
[Security Access - 16]
Enter the Basic Settings Enabling (Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module) code shown in the pop-up balloon to enable the basic setting.
[Do it!]
[Basic Settings - 04]
Select Seat occupied recognition serial number.
When applicable type the single digit 0 into the (reserved) box. If this is not present skip this step.
[Go!] to activate the Basic Setting.
After the result of Finished Correctly appears click [Stop]
The Seat occupied recognition serial number reset has been performed. Proceed directly to the Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706): Reset procedure!
Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706): Reset
If a repair on the Seat Occupied Recognition has been performed, including the above basic settings procedure, a reset has to be performed too.
Prerequisites:
- The Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706) Basic Settings was successful.
[Security Access - 16]
Enter the Basic Settings Enabling (Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module) code shown in the pop-up balloon to enable the basic setting.
[Do it!]
[Basic Settings - 04]
Select Resetting seat occupied recognition.
When applicable type the single digit 0 into the (reserved) box. If this is not present skip this step.
[Go!] to activate the Basic Setting.
After the result of Finished Correctly appears click [Stop]
The reset has been performed.
[Done, Go Back]
[Fault Codes - 02] Faults should NOT be stored
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]
Note If you get a "Request Sequence Error" when performing the above procedures, try [Coding - 07] the [15 - Airbags] module with the same Coding value it already has. It may give you an error but proceed anyway with the two Basic Settings steps shown above.
Seat Belt Tensioner Control Module Reset
Prerequisites:
- New Seat Belt Tensioner installed
- Battery voltage no less than 12.4 V.
- Seatbelt must NOT be plugged in.
- No Component Protection, Control Module Faulty, Crash Data Stored, Control Module Not Coded or Igniter faults in the system.
- Fault such as B1304 - Left front seat belt tensioner control module: Not configured and B1305 - Right front seat belt tensioner control module: Not configured are normal prior to the matching procedure.
[Select]
[15 - Airbags]
[Security Access - 16]
Enter the Basic Settings Enabling (Belt Tensioners) code shown in the pop-up balloon to enable the basic setting.
[Do it!]
[Basic Settings - 04]
Select Left belt tensioner serial number -or- Right belt tensioner serial number depending on the new component(s).
When applicable type the single digit 0 into the (reserved) box. If this is not present skip this step.
[Go!] to activate the Basic Setting.
After the result of Finished Correctly appears click [Stop]
The reset has been performed.
If both belts were replaced repeat for the other side at this point
[Done, Go Back]
[Fault Codes - 02] Faults should NOT be stored
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]
Special Notes
Due to liability concerns, Ross Tech does not offer assistance for installing used airbag components.
- If you click the J706 basic settings tests out of sequence, you may need to exit the module, cycle the key and repeat the entire process.
- If the procedure results in an error message -or- does not complete as expected:
- Registered users can send a complete Auto-Scan via email -or- register and post in our forum.
- Include specific details regarding which component(s) were replaced in the vehicle.
- Include specific details regarding the exact results when completing the basic settings procedure.
