00591 - Seat Belt Switch; Driver (E24): Resistance too High

Possible Symptoms

  • Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) active

Possible Causes

  • Wiring/Connectors from/to Seat Belt Switch; Driver (E24) faulty
  • Seat Belt Switch; Driver (E24) faulty
    • Seat Belt Microswitch (F140) faulty

Possible Solutions

  • Check Wiring/Connectors from/to Seat Belt Switch; Driver (E24)
  • Check Seat Belt Switch; Driver (E24)
    • Check Seat Belt Microswitch (F140)
    • Check Measuring Value Blocks (MVB)

Special Notes

  • VW models using AIRBAG VW6 generation systems have a common failure problem at the driver's side belt buckle assembly. This assembly contains the switches and mechanical latching components and the wires break off at the pivot point near the latch. The US market vehicles using this system are generally MY 2002+ (1C) New Beetle, (9M) Jetta, and (1J) Golf.
