16840/P0456/001110 - EVAP System: Very Small Leak Detected

Possible Symptoms

  • Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) active

Possible Causes

  • Fuel Cap not fully attached
  • Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System leaking/faulty

VW

  • On 2006 and 2007 Passat, check fuel cap part number. Updated version ends in "G". Please refer to Technical Bulletin 2016757 for details.

Audi

  • Audi Q7 (4L/FE) chassis. When P0456 or P0442 are stored, see if the following NAR market TPIs apply to the vehicle in question: 2040924 -or- 2035519. Each makes mention of a revised LDP part number (7L8906271A) in addition to troubleshooting the vacuum supply to the LDP.
  • Audi Q5 (8R) 2009 model year with 3.2 V6 FSI. When P0456 or P0442 are stored, see if the following NAR market TPI applies to the vehicle in question: 2021418. That's a flash update to correct a software problem with specific Engine controller part number(s).
  • Audi A6 (4F) with 3.2 V6 FSI. When this DTC is stored see if this NAR market TPI applies to the vehicle in question: 2020900. That's a flash update to correct a software problem with specific Engine controller part number(s).
  • Audi A6/A7/A8 (4G/FC/4H) models with 3.0 TFSI and 4.2 FSI gas engines. When this DTC is stored see if this NAR market TPI applies to the vehicle in question: 2027732. That is a flash update to correct a software problem with specific Engine controller part number(s) in addition to replacement of PCV parts when applicable. If the software was already up to date, J909 or G400 may need to be replaced. See the next note related to those components.
  • Audi A6/A7 (4G/FC) 2012-2014 model years -and- A4/S4/A5/S5/A5/S5 Cab/Q5 (8K/FL/8T/FH/FR/8F/8R/FP) 2012-2014 model years. When this DTC is stored see if this NAR market TPI applies to the vehicle in question: 2035073. That document contains information related to revised G400 and J909 components.
    • As of 2035073/6 (6th revision 2035073) the Audi A3/S3 (8V/FF) model was added to that TPI.
