VCDS will automatically tell you a suggested coding (HEX interface required), otherwise registered users can contact us for assistance.
For early (1998-1999) Passats, there may be no index number. Those were rare modules manufactured by Siemens and the most common example is: 1J0 909 607 B which would require a coding of: 00066
Additional details are found in the repair manual and TSB 01-07-26 or 2002581 for NAR (North American Region) vehicles.
