General Information This is a general page that applies to 09E/09L/0AT/0B6 6-Speed Automatic Transmission (AT) transmissions which are Longitudinal mounted in vehicles such as the:

The TSB/TPI, Adaptation and Measuring Block data we have available at this time is located in this thread. This Wiki page will include additional information at a later point in time.

In the meanwhile, Registered customers seeking assistance can post the complete VCDS Auto-Scan with the vehicle repair history in addition to any vehicle functionality concerns in that thread.

Additional information can be found in the Official Factory Repair Information.

Basic Setting

The Basic Setting function is not applicable to this transmission controller.

Adaptation

Adaptation channel 001 is only available in vehicles manufactured after a production split in 2006. Some 2004-2006 model year vehicles may support the Adaptation function after a dealer level flash update has been performed per the applicable TSBs/TPIs which can be located in the Official Factory Repair Information.

Prerequisites:

  • Ignition on, engine off.
  • Transmission 55°C ~ 95°C (see Measuring Value Block group 004)

Important! Adaptation should be performed only under the following circumstances:

  • Transmission has a harsh gear-shifting
  • After an ATF service/change
  • After clutch repairs
  • After replacing the mechatronics unit or gearbox
  • After a software update

Note:
The following will delete the Clutch Adaptation values found in Measuring Value Block groups [073] ~ [077].
It is recommended to make note of the current values, then recheck the above Measuring Value Blocks after the Adaption below

Special Procedures

For more information about "Gearbox adaption", see the Audi SSP 385 6-speed automatic gearbox 09L 0AT 0B6 0BQ 09E

Adaption Drive Sequence

for 6-Speed Automatic Gearbox 0BQ, 0B6, 0AT, 09L, 09E

Note: The adaption drive is conducted on a flat, smooth road in two stages, the Warm up procedure and the Adaption Procedure.

Prerequisites:

  • ATF temperature between 55 - 95°C. (Measuring Value Block group 004, field 1)
  • Adaptions have been reset and confirmed in Measuring Value Block groups 073 ~ 077

1) Warm up procedure

  • During the warm-up cycle, accelerate normally, then let the vehicle slow down naturally until it shifts from 2nd to 1st gear and comes to a full stop. Repeat this process at least 10 times

2) Adaption Procedure:
Must complete ALL four (4) parts!

Part 1 (ATF temperature 40°C or higher): Quick Adaption for Clutches B, C, and E

  • Accelerate from a standstill through selector positions D to 4th gear using minimal torque (around 100 Nm) (See Measuring Value Block group 009).
  • Coast down to 40 kph (24mph) without braking, then gradually brake to a stop.
  • Wait for 5 seconds once stationary.
  • Repeat up to 3 times, or proceed to part 2 if clutches B, C, and E have adapted at least once. (See Measuring Value Block group 074, 075 and 077)

Part 2 (ATF temperature 70°C or higher): Engagement Adaption for Clutches B and C

  • Drive 3-4 km (2-4 miles) using approximately 100 Nm of torque in Tiptronic 5th gear (manual) within the engine speed range of 1600-2800 rpm.
  • Accelerate and continue for another 3-4 km (2-4 miles) in Tiptronic 6th gear (manual) within 1600-2800 rpm.

Part 3: Engagement Adaption for Clutches A and C

  • Drive for 1 minute in Tiptronic 5th gear (manual) between 1400 and 2100 rpm, then let the engine speed drop to 1400 rpm (overrun mode).
  • Repeat up to 3 times, or proceed to part 4 if clutches A and C have adapted at least once. (See Measuring Value Block group 073 and 075)

Part 4: Engagement Adaption for Clutch E and Slip Adaption for Clutch D

  • Drive for 1 minute in Tiptronic 3rd gear (manual) using 60 Nm of torque within the engine speed range of 1400-2100 rpm, then slowly brake to a stop.
  • Wait for 5 seconds once stationary.
  • Repeat up to 3 times, or end the adaption run if clutches D and E have adapted at least once. (See Measuring Value Block group 076 and 077)

End of Adaption Drive

  • Conduct a test drive through all gears, checking for gear-shift jerk at standstill and during driving. If no improvement is noticed, adapt specific individual clutches and check for fault codes.

Individual Clutch Adaptions If necessary, complete the following as needed to adapt individual clutches.

  • Clutch A:
    • Activation pressure: Coast from 5th to 4th gear.
    • Quick-activation time: Coast in Tiptronic 5th gear from 90 km/h (55mph) to 70 km/h (45mph).
  • Clutch B:
    • Activation pressure: Coast from 6th to 5th or 4th to 3rd gear, up-shift, light throttle from 2nd to 3rd gear.
    • Quick-activation time: Coast in Tiptronic 6th gear from 100 km/h (62mph) to 70 km/h (45mph).
  • Clutch C:
    • Activation pressure: Coast from 3rd to 2nd gear, up-shift, light throttle from 1st to 2nd gear, light acceleration in Tiptronic 5th gear from 70 km/h (45mph) to 90 km/h (55mph) (approx. 90 Nm).
    • Quick-activation time: Light acceleration in Tiptronic 5th gear from 70 km/h (45mph) to 90 km/h (55mph) (approx. 90 Nm).
  • Clutch D:
    • Activation pressure: From D 3rd gear, come to a stop by light braking and remain standing for at least five seconds.
  • Clutch E:
    • Activation pressure: Up-shift, light throttle from 3rd to 4th gear, in D 3rd gear, hold speed at approx. 1500 rpm.

Replacement

The Adaption procedure must be completed if the gearbox has been replaced.
Always follow the repair procedures as per the Official Factory Repair Information.

Special Notes

Several TSB/TPIs exist for the transmission codes covered. Always check the repair manual for the car in question but this is a (small) list:
