This page applies to the 2016 and newer model year Q3 with TRW ESC-EBC460i ABS brake system. The system can be identified by evaluating the data in the Auto-Scan:

Address 03: ABS Brakes (J104) Labels: 5N0-614-109-V1.clb
  Part No SW: 5N0 614 109 CF HW: 5N0 614 109 CF
  Component: ESC-EBC460iV1 H10 0013
  ASAM Dataset: EV_Brake1ESCEPBTRW

The Electro-Mechanical Parking Brake (EPB) functions are integrated into this control module. There is NOT a standalone 53-Parking Brake control module on vehicles with this system.

Coding

Coding for this Control Module is normally done via Software Version Management (SVM). If the old Control Module is still accessible read/copy its Coding and Paste it into the New coding line of the replacement Module.

  • If the old control module will not communicate, or the original coding was not saved prior to repairs, registered customers can contact us directly via email for assistance. Please send the complete Auto-Scan with the recent repair history and we can try to help with the Coding Process.
  • It is strongly recommended to complete the Sensor for Steering Angle (G85) Basic Setting operation immediately after coding the control module.

Security Access

VCDS will provide this Information specific to the Control Module once you open the Security Access Function.

Basic Setting

Steering Angle Sensor (G85) Calibration

Prerequisites:

  • Turn steering wheel at least 30 ° left or right and back straight ahead (Tolerance: ±1.5 °).

[Select]
[03 - Brake Electronics]
[Adv. Meas. Values] group: [*IDE04443-MAS00815*] Slip control system sensor - Steering angle sensor Turn the steering wheel to set the steering angle within the ±1.5 ° specification. [Done, Go Back]
[Security Access - 16]
Enter 40168, to enable the basic setting.
[Do it!]
[Basic Settings - 04]
[*MAS00815*] Steering angle sensor
[Go]
After a successful basic setting Finished Correctly or Not Running will be shown
[Stop]
[Done, Go Back]

If an error message is shown verify that the steering angle reading was within the ±1.5 ° specification.

After the Steering Angle Sensor (G85) Calibration is completed, the 44-Steering Assist (J500) module may have DTC 02546- Steering Limit Stop: No or Incorrect Basic Setting / Adaptation. The steering limit end stops need to be adapted as follows:

  • Start the engine and turn the steering to full right lock and hold it for 5 to 10 seconds. The vehicle should produce an audible beep.
  • Turn the steering to the complete left lock and the same audible beep should sound.
  • Straighten the wheels and wait 5 to 10 seconds while observing the steering and traction control warnings. They should extinguish although it is advised to scan the vehicle again for DTCs prior to the test drive.
    • If you do not hear the audible beep make sure the steering is being held to the extreme end-stop!

Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201)

Prerequisites:

  • System voltage at least 12.0 V.
  • Brake pedal at rest

[Select]
[03 - Brake Electronics]
[Security Access - 16]
Enter 40168, to enable the basic setting.
[Do it!]
[Basic Settings - 04]
[*IDE03650] Basic setting for brake pressure sensor
[Go]
After a successful basic setting Finished Correctly or Not Running will be shown
[Stop]
[Done, Go Back]

Lateral and Longitudinal Acceleration Sensors (G200/G251)

  • The Lateral Acceleration Sensor (G200) and Longitudinal Acceleration Sensor (G251) are calibrated at the same time using one operation.

Prerequisites:

  • System voltage at least 12.0 V.
  • Vehicle on level ground.

[Select]
[03 - Brake Electronics]
[Security Access - 16]
Enter 40168, to enable the basic setting.
[Do it!]
[Basic Settings - 04]
[*IDE05146*] Basic setting of ESP sensor unit
[Go]
After a successful basic setting Finished Correctly or Not Running will be shown
[Stop]
[Done, Go Back]

Electro-Mechanical Parking Brake (EPB)

  • The following steps only apply to cars with EPB:

Caution!

  • Do not perform any of these Basic Settings while the brakes are disassembled! Opening, closing, function tests, and otherwise cycling the Electronic Parking brakes should only be done with the pads and calipers properly installed on the rotors.
  • Please follow the procedures EXACTLY. There's a reason for every step. If you skip any prerequisites or other steps here, you are likely to experience "issues" for which no documented resolutions exist, in which case we will not be able to help you resolve them.
  • It is strongly recommended to run a full Auto-Scan first thing to check for any preexisting faults! There have been several reports of repair shops damaging the Electronic Parking Brake System when trying to do rear brakes, but not telling the customer and then sending the car out the door.

Open Rear Parking Brake

Prerequisites:

  • Connect a battery charger as per repair manual. (For plug-ins like the e-Golf/Golf GTE/A3 e-tron/etc., connect the EV charging cable)
  • Cycle the Parking Brake ON, then OFF first.

[Select]
[03 - ABS Brakes]
[Basic Settings - 04]
Select Start lining change mode
[Go!] to activate the Basic Setting.
The brake calipers will then open, allowing the pads to be changed.
You should hear the rear caliper motors operating.
Wait 30 seconds after it says Not Running or the noises have stopped before clicking [Stop]
[Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

  • Turn ignition off and leave battery charger connected.

The caliper pistons do not move back into the caliper, they must be pushed in using a hand tool. Fault code 721152 - Brake pad replacement mode active will be stored, this is normal.

Close Rear Parking Brake

Prerequisites:

  • Connect a battery charger as per repair manual.

[Select]
[03 - ABS Brakes]
[Basic Settings - 04]
Select End lining change mode
[Go!] to activate the Basic Setting.
The brake calipers will then close.
Wait 30 seconds after it says Not Running or the noises have stopped before clicking [Stop]
[Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

  • Turn ignition off

The LED in the parking brake switch and the warning lamp in the instrument cluster will probably continue to blink rapidly in addition to Fault code C1011 - Brake pad replacement mode active. This should stop after cycling the Parking Brake ON, then OFF again using the switch in the vehicle while holding the brake pedal AFTER all rear brake components are reassembled.
